  16. Fort Collins, Colorado, August 1, 1994 - Thoughtful Software
  17. announced the release of a new version of HyperSense, its
  18. easy-to-use multipurpose authoring software for NEXTSTEP.  This
  19. new release debuts many features which enhance the program, and
  20. make it even more accessible for all users.

  22. HyperSense lets anyone create and use interactive documents such
  23. as medical and business tutorials, multimedia databases, hypertext
  24. documents, personal applications and much more.   A drag and drop
  25. interface makes document creation easy.  Understandable SenseTalk
  26. scripts provide the power and versatility to master complex tasks,
  27. and support the use of HyperCard stacks which can be converted for
  28. use in HyperSense.

  30. HyperSense has been enthusiastically received in the educational,
  31. medical and business communities.  Users have found HyperSense to
  32. be an effective tool for presenting and interacting with text,
  33. images and sound.  "HyperSense provided me all the tools I needed
  34. to create my hypertext dissertation on prostate cancer," said
  35. first-time authoring system user Greg Gliemi.  "Without it I would
  36. have been lost."

  38. The latest release of HyperSense is available by FTP in the
  39. /pub/next/HyperSense directory at the Oregon State archive site

  46. The Oregon State site also contains a growing repository of freely
  47. available HyperSense documents contributed by users of the
  48. program, ranging from a loan calculator which generates nicely
  49. formatted amortization schedules, to an extensive tutorial on
  50. 16th-century music theory.  For those without FTP access to the
  51. Internet, Thoughtful Software will ship the software on floppy
  52. disks for a small media and shipping charge.

  54. The software can be fully enabled by purchasing a license from
  55. Thoughtful Software.  Licenses for this pre-release version are
  56. available at the special price of $299, and include a free upgrade
  57. to HyperSense 1.0 (with printed manual) plus any other releases
  58. issued through June 1995.  Quantity and educational discounts are
  59. available, as well as a special student license (no printed
  60. manual) for $99.

  63. Highlights of the New Release include:

  65. - Custom Help:  Users can now easily add context-sensitive help to
  66. any document.
  67.  
  68. - A new DocumentTools palette facilitates creating and modifying
  69. documents.  The new panel (which is itself a HyperSense document)
  70. provides buttons for creating new documents in several formats,
  71. plus tools to make it easy to resize the pages of any stack, to
  72. change page colors, and to extend any windowFrame with the
  73. automatic addition of navigation buttons.

  75. - New Polygon and CurveLine drawing tools enhance the range of
  76. graphic objects available.

  78. - A new Preferences panel enables users to set a variety of
  79. personal preference options easily.

  81. - WindowFrame elements can now automatically resize with the
  82. window.

  84. - Many new object properties were added, including the ability to
  85. add a border to an imageElement and specify a different image for
  86. it to display on each page (thus effectively creating a "picture
  87. field").

  89. - Numerous SenseTalk enhancements, including the ability to access
  90. and modify the properties of elements embedded within field text.

  92. - Many new or improved documents are included with this release,
  93. including an updated Home document and a new Bookmarks panel which
  94. allows each user to record a personal list of markers for quick
  95. navigation to any page of any document.

  100. - A rich document-based architecture, with multiple Stacks of
  101. Pages and multiple WindowFrames (window and panel definitions)
  102. within any Document.

  104. - Multiple Layers of elements on any Page or WindowFrame.  Layers
  105. can be shared by various Pages in any combination, and can be
  106. hidden, redisplayed, and reordered either manually or under script
  107. control.

  109. - Object oriented drawing, on multiple layers.  Each graphic is an
  110. independent object that can be resized, repositioned, or hidden.
  111. Graphic shapes include rectangles, ovals, lines, polygons,
  112. freehand shapes and curve lines.

  115. buttons, switches, radio buttons, browsers, sliders, and more.
